Rich Media Specifications
  • Materials are due 5 business days prior to campaign flight.
  • Expanding ads must retract instantly on rollout or have a clearly labeled close button.
  • Sound is only permitted when a user clicks on the ad. Ads with sound must provide a clearly labeled stop control.
  • High impact rich media ad frequency is capped, limited to a frequency of 3x per day per user. Please talk to your account executive for specifics.
  • Specialized non-IAB size ads may be available throughout the site for ad positions and sponsorships. Contact your account executive for options.
  • Floating ad must self-close within 10 seconds, and must provide a clearly labeled close button.
  • Each page takeover unit follows standard banner ad specifications.
  • Wallpaper ads can be jpg or static gif. Each side can have a different redirect link.
  • Wallpaper ads may have a coordinating solid background color, subject to color approval. Please talk to your account executive for specifics.

Standard Banner Ad Specifications
  • Materials are due 3 business days prior to campaign flight.
  • Flash ads must have a clickTAG, not hard-coded links, in order to track clickthrus.
    See Flash clickTAG Instructions.
  • 3rd party javascript ad tags are acceptable, but require 3 business days for testing prior to launch.

  • Different ad positions are available on different pages.
  • Contact your account executive for specific ad size options on specific pages.
Flash clickTAG Instructions
  1. Insert a new button.
  2. In the button's last frame, create a rectangle that will cover the entire stage.
  3. Create a new layer on the top of your document.
  4. Drag the button from the library into the new layer. Make sure the button is visible for the entire duration of the ad.
  5. Add an action to the button. Copy and paste this action EXACTLY as shown
    below:
    Note: Do not embed your own URL into the clickTAG. Please leave "_blank" in
    the action script.

  6. Select version "Flash player 7", or "Flash player 8", and ActionScript 2.0 in Publish Settings.
  7. Export or Publish Movie.
Additional Flash Specifications
  • Flash ads must be 30fps maximum.
  • Loading external jpgs is allowed, but no more than 4 at 25KB each.
  • Accessing the user's microphone or WebCam is not permitted.
  • A static backup version of Flash ads is recommended. Backup files can be static gif or jpg, standard file size and dimension limits apply.
  • A maximum of 3 loops of 15 seconds each is recommended.
In-Banner Video and Audio
  • The user must click to activate audio. Video may proceed without user activation.
  • Play, Stop/Pause, and Mute buttons are required.
  • Streaming video is not permitted.
  • Externally loading video or audio files should be 30 seconds maximum.
  • Client, agency, or vendor is responsible for compatibility and playability issues within submitted ads.
Cookie Setting
  • Only available via 3rd party providers.

Mobile Ad Specifications

  • If a user clicks on the ad, the clickthru will open a browser window.
  • Landing pages need to be optimized for mobile devices, and should be relevant to the ad.
  • If there is a specific promotion on the ad, the landing page should have all details.
  • If unavailable, a mobile optimized landing page can be created for you. Please talk to your account executive about landing page options.
Device Availability
  • Different size mobile ads will display on certain devices.
  • Some positions display on app pages and some display on mobile versions of our content pages. Please talk to your account executive for specifics.

EMAIL MARKETING

E-Blast Specifications

  • Personalized emails are sent to our Post and Courier VIP mailing list.
  • Materials are due 5 business days prior to launch.
  • HTML (transitional 1.0) and plain text versions must be submitted.
  • The Post and Courier is not responsible for compatibility issues and/or revisions for materials provided by clients, agencies or vendors.
Subject Line
  • 50 characters maximum recommended.
  • No supershift characters, symbols, or all CAPS. Limit punctuation to minimum.
  • Avoid words like “FREE” or “GREAT” to minimize spam filtering.
HTML Version
  • Linked graphic formats: jpg and static gif (no animation).
  • Linked graphics must have full URL paths and ALT tags.
  • Maximum width: 644 pixels. Recommended height is 800 pixels maximum.
  • Maximum total file size: 100k, with a maximum of 40K per image.
  • All provided HTML image links must have absolute paths (no relative paths accepted).
  • The Post and Courier does not recommend developing emails as one large image (jpg or gif).

  • Ads must be static gif or jpg graphics.

PRE-ROLLS & OVERLAYS

Pre-roll and Overlay Ad Specifications

  • Materials are due 3 business days prior to campaign flight.
  • Pre-roll videos should be 400bps maximum total, including sound and video. Submit flv format, 15 seconds maximum. Conversion from other formats may be possible. Dimensions should not exceed 480px width or 252px height.
  • Overlay ads display over video content and must have translucent backgrounds. Dimensions are 480 x 90 pixels, saved as a transparent png file. The ad will scale dynamically to smaller video players.

Content Availability

  • Pre-roll video and overlay ads are available to run on various video players throughout our sites.

Advertising Guidelines and Terms

The Post and Courier reserves the right to accept, retract, or reject any advertisement at any time.

  • Ads should have a distinct border or a highly contrasting background to clearly identify where the ad ends, and the page begins.
  • Submitted creatives must conform to ad size requirements and file size limits.
  • No obscene or otherwise objectionable text, graphics or photos.
  • The Post and Courier reserves the right to to remove any advertisement which is deemed annoying and/or harmful to our users' experience at any time.
